Do your part to help protect our environment by recycling your unwanted items. At Semiahmoo Bottle Depot, we accept a number of recyclable items including all the standards like paper, cardboard and cans, plus many specialty items including electronics, small appliances, batteries, light bulbs and more. We are an Encorp Return-It location, which means we are a federally funded, not-for-profit program. Drop off of items is free and we even offer cash for empty bottles and cans. Stop by today with your recyclables.
Earn cash for your unused bottles and cans
Did you know you can turn your empty bottles and cans into cash? Whether you are a restaurant owner with a high volume of the bottle and can waste or you are an individual who collects empties at your home, we are able to offer cash when you bring the items to our location. We offer a competitive rate based on current market conditions, so you’re sure to get a fair return.
The beer/cider container refund rate varies. Beer cans and refillable bottles are not managed through the return-it system. BC Brewers Recycled Container Collection Council (BRCCC) is directly responsible for these containers under their stewardship program. This depot will accept and recycle these containers; however, they may discount the deposit refund.
There are many household items you can recycle instead of throwing in the garbage. Doing so helps to keep our landfills free of unnecessary items and allows them to be repurposed for future use. At Semiahmoo Bottle Depot we are able to accept light fixtures, including bulbs, household paints, power tools, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors plus so much more.
If you have a question about the types of items we can accept at our location, feel free to check the list on this page or give us a call. We encourage you to stop by at any time during our business hours to drop off your items. No appointment time is necessary and drop off is free.
The most misleading situations when you return empty containers:
1. Not Refundable Containers
* Not Labeled, Homemade and U-Brewed Beverage containers.
* Beverage containers purchased directly from the United States.
* Unregistered Beverage Containers.
* Milk, Soy and Yoghurt Beverage Containers.
2. Beverage Containers Price Included Two Fees:
Container Recycling Fee (CRF) and Deposit .
3. What is a Container Recycling Fee (CRF)?
This is the fee Encorp charges to cover the net cost of recycling a beverage container type after any unredeemed deposits and commodity revenues for that container type have been used. CRFs have been in place for beverage containers in British Columbia for more than 17 years. The CRF varies for each beverage container category. As a not-for-profit product stewardship agency, Encorp Pacific only charges the net cost for recovering and recycling beverage containers. The CRF reflects current economic conditions such as commodity prices and beverage volumes.
4. What’s the difference between a Containers Recycling Fee (CRF) and a deposit?
CRFs are non-refundable. Consumers are refunded the deposit they pay for a beverage container when they return the container to a Return-It Depot or to a retailer.
